New Delhi: The well-marked Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts is likely to concentrate into a depression. However, the depression unlikely to develop into cyclone, informed IMD.
Director General (DG), India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mrutyunjay Mohapatra informed that the coastal Odisha belt may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall today. The weather will remain cloudy throughout day with prevalence of mild wind.
“Rural low-lying areas may be hit hard due to the incessant rains. Drainage systems in urban areas may be affected if unremitting rains continue throughout day.” Mohapatra added.
Adding to the fact, Mohapatra said, “Areas elongated with Bay of Bengal will be mostly affected. The effect of the depression will mostly prevail over the sea than on the land. Though there is no threat of cyclone, fishermen are prohibited to venture into the sea. All ports have sounded warning signal No 3.” Informed Mohapatra.
