The student, identified as Haraprasad Panda, is reportedly a resident of Mukhiguda village in Kalahandi district.

As per sources, the boy was reportedly involved in a love affair with a girl and was allegedly using mobile phone in the college without the knowledge of the college authorities.

On Thursday, the authorities took his mobile phone and warned him that they would inform his family members about it.

The student was reportedly under mental duress and allegedly hanged himself with a towel outside his class late last night. The authorities immediately informed Sadar police following which a team rushed to the spot and began investigation into the incident.

Principal-In-Charge & Odia lecturer, Ashok Kumar Sahu said, "The hostel supervisor came and informed me at around 5.45 am in the morning that Haraprasad has been found hanging . He was a good student and there was no complaint against him. All the classrooms are inside our campus. As per his classmates, Haraprasad went out at around 4 am in the morning. The security guards patrol till 12 pm and the incident is suspected to have happened after that."

Asked, SDPO Biranchi Prasad Dehuri said," As per preliminary inquiry, the college warden snatched his mobile as no student was allowed to use mobiles inside the college. May be because of this he was afraid that they would complain this to his parents. The body has been sent for post mortem. We can ascertain only after getting the report. Further investigation is on."

Haraprasad's uncle Santosh Panda said," We don't have any idea why he committed suicide. We are waiting for the post mortem report."
