Khurda: While companies are coming up with a slew of measures to protect customers from fraud during online shopping, people are still falling prey to fraudsters. In such a case, a person from Khurda in Odisha recently has become a soft target for fraudsters.
Dashrathi Nayak of Nalipara of Arjunpur under Khurda Town Police Station on Monday lodged a complaint alleging that his card was used for shopping without his knowledge.
As per the complaint, in October last year, Nayak had applied for a digital card from Bajaj Finserv Ltd. He got a card with validity till 2027 and online shopping limit of Rs 1, 20, 000.
According to Nayak, he used his card to buy home theatre, television, mobile phone and other items and is paying instalments.However, on April 14 this year, he received a message that he has bought a laptop worth Rs 70,000 on his card with a monthly instalment of Rs 11,000.
But Nayak claims that he didn't buy the laptop.
Later, he approached Bajaj Finserv and demanded details of the purchase following which it was found out that one Sachin Kumar of Gurgaon placed the order and made the payment via Nayak's card.
"After using the card for around eight months, I received a message that a laptop worth Rs 70,990 was purchased on my card. I did get an OTP but I didn't share it with anyone; still the purchase was made. I soon filed a complaint with the cyber police cell and later with the Khurda Town police," Nayak said.
He added that even after the complaint, the police are yet to take any step in this regard.
"Today he lodged a complaint. We will take up the matter with cyber and other teams and carry out investigation," said Khurda Town PS IIC, Laxman Dandasena.
