Bhubaneswar: Elaborate arrangements are in place to ensure proper and timely treatment of Covid-19 patients in Odisha, said Director Public Health, Niranjan Mishra on Monday.
Even though the total bed occupancy is between 25-30 per cent and 70 per cent beds are still vacant, every effort is being taken to ramp up facilities at healthcare institutions, said Mishra.
According to Mishra, the State government has now decided to create clusters by combining two to three districts. As per situation and availability of beds, patients can be shifted between the districts for better treatment.
“If any patient becomes critical, he/she from any district can be shifted to Cuttack/ Bhubaneswar after coordinating with the State. At present, 70 per cent beds are still vacant. But there will be bed saturation at places where the Covid cases are high. We are trying to efficiently manage resources by keeping the patients in step down after their condition improves and on rotation basis which was done during the last peak,” said Mishra.
The Public Health Director further said that Odisha is now a surplus oxygen producing State. The State government has already taken steps to improve the oxygen distribution system.
“Already nodal officers have been appointed in each district with dedicated vehicles. Oxygen cylinders be filled up on daily basis and no cylinder will be allowed to remain empty in big and major hospitals,” Mishra added.
