Most cities in the State on Sunday recorded 35 degree Celsius or above with Angul being the hottest one registering 36.1 degree Celsius, in a stark departure from normal Shravan month’s weather conditions.
As per the information shared by the IMD’s regional centre, the hottest city next to Angul was Sambalpur. It recorded 36 degree Celsius.
The following cities are Chandbali (35.7 degree Celsius), Cuttack, Bargarh and Sonepur (35.6 each), Titlagarh (35.5), Balasore, Jharsuguda, Puri, Hirakud and Bolangir (35.2 each) and Bhadrak, Bhubaneswar, Nayagarh, Boudh, Parlakhemundi and Malkangiri (35 degree Celsius each).
The Met centre ascribed this to the monsoon becoming weak.
The IMD on Saturday had predicted that the maximum temperature will be above three to four degree Celsius at many places of the State in the coming three days.
The Met centre also sounded warning for most of the districts till August 5 as one or two places of them are likely to experience thunderstorm with lightning.
The districts under alert from 8:30 am, August 1 to 8.30 am, August 2 are Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sundargarh and Nabarangpur.
Heavy rainfall is also very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
