Low pressure-induced rain likely to dampen Durga Puja festivity in Odisha

The festive spirit in Odisha ahead of Dussehra may face a setback as the Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rainfall across several districts of the state. According to weather officials, a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal around September 25–26, which could trigger wet conditions during the festive period.

In the immediate term, forecasts suggest that heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely between September 17 and 21 in multiple regions. Gusty surface winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph are also expected, which may cause further inconvenience to people engaged in outdoor celebrations and puja preparations. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Despite the looming weather concerns, preparations for Vijaya Dashami, scheduled to be celebrated on October 2 this year are already in full swing. Puja pandals are being erected across towns and cities, with artisans and organizers working tirelessly to create elaborate decorations. Markets are also buzzing with festive energy as people shop for new clothes and decorative items.
