A day after the cyclonic storm Gulab ripped through north Andhra and south Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar on Tuesday alerted about the formation of another cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal.
As per the weather bureau, the cyclonic circulation is gaining momentum near East-central Bangladesh - Myanmar area. As alerted by IMD, the cyclonic circulation is likely to move towards coastal areas of West Bengal.
Under its influence, parts of North Odisha are likely to experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms for three days, i.e. from September 28-30. Different areas in districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balasore and Bhadrak are most likely to witness heavy rainfall on September 29 and 30.

"A new cyclonic circulation has developed in the adjoining coastal areas of East-central Bangladesh - Myanmar. It is most likely to move towards the coastal region of West Bengal. Regions of North Odisha will experience heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm activities for three days from Sept 28 under its influence," said HR Biswas, Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director.
Meanwhile, Cyclonic Storm Gulab weakened into a Depression over north Telangana and adjoining south Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha.
The system moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph and lay centered at 2330 hrs IST of 27 th September 2021 over north Telangana and adjoining Vidarbha. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area in few hours.
Earlier on Monday, Koraput, Gajapati and several other southern districts of Odisha recorded very to very heavy rainfall under the influence of the cyclonic storm. In the last 24 hours, Pottangi in Koraput has experienced the highest rainfall - 148.0mm followed by Mahendragarh with 89.4mm.
