All eyes are now on the possible intensification of the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal into a cyclonic storm, which will be named ‘Cyclone Gulab’, in next few hours.

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD) the cyclonic storm is likely to cross the two states –South of Odisha and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh with wind speed of 70 to 80 kmph and gusting up to 90kmph on Sunday evening (September 26). It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur around Kalingapatnam by September 26 evening.
The wind speed during landfall is expected to be around 75-80 kmph gusting up to 90-95 kmph. IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that the deep depression now lies centred some 470 km from Gopalpur. It may turn into a cyclonic storm and it will have its impact felt in several parts of Odisha.

There might be extensive damage to horticultural crops and uprooting of small trees under the impact of gusty winds. The cyclonic storm will trigger heavy rainfall in south and coastal Odisha. The southern districts are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall tomorrow (September 26).
As per the IMD forecast, the system will bring widespread and heavy rain to several parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena said that Odisha is getting ready for the cyclonic storm and taking all measures to deal with three issues- water-logging, flash floods and flood in river system.
“During 2018 Cyclone Titli, we had witnessed landslides in Gajapati district. We have directed officials in Gajapati and Rayagada districts to take appropriate steps to deal with landslide incidents. Directions have also been issued to take steps for proper evacuation in areas which are prone to landslides,” said Jena.

Orange warning (Be prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places is very likely to occur over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, and Kalahandi.
Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir and Nuapada.
