The landfall process of the cyclonic storm ‘Gulab’ is likely to start after 9 pm tonight, said Umasankar Das, a senior official of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.

The entire landfall process is likely to continue for over three hours. The wind speed of the cyclonic storm is likely to be around 75-85 kmph gusting upto 95 kmph, said Das.
As per the latest weather bulletin, cyclonic storm Gulab is about 180 km East-Southeast of Gopalpur and 240 km East-northeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam & Gopalpur, as a Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 75-85 kmph gusting to 95 kmph.

“The impact of the cyclonic storm will be more in Ganjam and Gajapati districts. Red warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for 7 districts in Odisha. As the landfall process is getting delayed, several parts of the State will experience gusty winds on September 27 as well,” said Das.
According to Das, the wind speed in four districts- Puri, Khordha, Koraput and Rayagada will around 55-65 kmph gusting upto 75 kmph during the landfall process.
“After the landfall, the cyclonic storm will gradually weaken and will turn into a depression. Several districts-Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 27,” said Das.
As per the latest update, Chandbali has recorded the highest rainfall of 21 mm. The entire coastal districts will experience rainfall activities. The Met department has predicted an intense spell of rainfall in Bhubaneswar which will continue throughout the day today.
