Odisha continued to reel under intense cold wave conditions with the night temperature dipping below 10 degree Celsius in at least 11 places on Thursday night, affecting normal life in the regions.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Phulbani, the headquarter town of Kandhamal district, recorded the coldest night with minimum temperature falling to 6.5 degree followed by Daringbadi and Sundergarh with 7.5 degree each.
Meanwhile, Sonepur recorded 8.2 degree while the minimum temperature recorded at Titilagarh was 8.3 degree Celsius. Similarly, Keonjhar registered 8.6 degree and Jharsuguda 8.8 degree Celsius.
On the other hand, Bhawanipatna and Boudh recorded 9 degree minimum temperature while the Harikud region recorded 9.5 degree. A minimum temperature of 9.6 degree was recorded in Koraput.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded minimum temperature of 12.4 and 11.6 degree respectively on Thursday night.
Earlier on Thursday, the weather office had alerted that the cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail over some districts of interior Odisha for the day.
Further, dry weather is likely to prevail over Khordha and Nayagarh districts for the next five days, i.e. from December 23 to 28. However, there will be a gradual rise in minimum temperature (night temperature) by 2-4 degree during the next two days and no significant change will be witnessed in the districts thereafter.
