Bengali weddings, also known as 'Biye', are grand and elaborate affairs. The vibrant colours and joyful celebrations showcase the cultural heritage of Bengalis while following the timeless tradition, which reflects the true celebration of love, family, and uniqueness of Bengal. However, with time, the new generation is opting for a fusion that merges the tradition of other regions with traditional Bengali weddings. But recently a picture of a Bengali couple has taken the internet by storm as the newlywed broke the stereotype and didn't follow the 'patriarchal rituals' of Bengali weddings.
Recently, a photo of the Bengali couple stormed social media in which the duo is seen decked up as groom and bride as per Bengali tradition. Surprisingly, they are seen lighting up cigarettes for each other.
As claimed, the duo tied the knot on a busy road and lit up cigarettes for each other on the roadside. Moreover, it is also claimed that the duo said, "We don't follow patriarchal, misogynistic mantras and rituals." (sic)

While the authenticity behind the photo and the made claims couldn't be verified, the picture of the newlywed Bengali couple has fumed netizens, especially Bengalis.
Sharing the picture, a user wrote, "Then what’s the point of wearing Hindu traditional wedding dress? Simple court marriage would have been enough. Leftist librandus are of different league I tell you." (sic)
Commenting on a post, one user wrote, "I am a Bengali myself, but this kind of barbaric Hindu marriage happening in Bengal is a shame for the entire nation. Let this newly married couple be banished from civilized society because in the future their children will become materialists & extremists." (sic)
Another user commented, "These so-called nibbis and nibbas are destroying the Sanatan culture. Which is absolutely pathetic! Also, why have they dressed with Hindu attire? They would wore a normal dress breaking the so-called "patriarchal, misogynistic rituals"! Show-offs!" (sic)
