Dowry continues to be a major hurdle even today in most Indian marriages. In a shocking turn of events in Bareilly, a groom demanded Rs 5 lakh in dowry just before the nikah.
When the family of the bride refused to fulfill this demand, the groom and his family members allegedly got all drunk and created a ruckus. They even beat a few members from the side of the bride and went away.
According to Live Hindustan, after all this hungama, the bride went to the police station and filed a complaint against the groom and his group. Gaus Khan, from Khana Gautiya, said that he had arranged the marriage of his sister Tara Bi with Habib from Ijjatnagar.
The marriage was to take place on Sunday and for that the bride’s family members had booked a baraat ghar in Raza colony. They started preparing for the marriage right in the early morning.
The baraat came around in the afternoon after which the family members of Habib demanded Rs 5 lakh as dowry. The bride’s family tried to persuade and convince them but they were not in the mood to listen and refused to continue with the nikah ceremony.
Later, the groom’s family drank alcohol and created an uproar. Habib also was involved in all these actions and fled away with the baraat refusing to marry Tara Bi.
Gaus Khan has four sisters and he has to fulfill the responsibility of marrying all of them as he does not have parents. On Monday, his second sister was supposed to get married. The family of the groom for the second sister also tried to persuade Habid and his family members but they did not listen. Even the panchayat members tried to convince them but to no effect.
After that, as per Live Hindustan, one social worker Roshni Khan met the family of Gaus Khan and along with them registered a case against Habib and his family members at the Kila Police Station.
