If you're eagerly anticipating the release of the next Apple Watch, you may have heard rumors about an upgraded microLED display.
According to a recent leak by DSCC analyst Ross Young, Apple is unlikely to bring microLED display technology to the Apple Watch before the second half of 2025.
What are MicroLED displays?
Currently, the Apple Watch is equipped with OLED displays.
MicroLED display technology offers higher resolution and color contrast compared to OLED.
This is why Apple is planning to use microLED displays in its future products, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac units.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had earlier suggested that Apple would replace the current OLED standard with microLED technology in its devices from 2024 onwards.
What does the leak suggest?
According to Ross Young, Apple will not release an Apple Watch with a microLED display before the second half of 2025.
This contradicts previous rumors that suggested the Apple Watch Ultra with microLED display would be available by the end of 2024.
At present, Apple uses OLED displays for its wearables, but the next-generation microLED display would bring improved resolution, color contrast, and visibility at angles.
