Thrilling sessions marked the fourth day of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) test match today as India put on a dominant show over Australia. A bowling masterclass led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj brought down key wickets with the hosts currently standing at 228 at the loss of 9 wickets.

Indian cricket fans quickly took to social media sites like X (formerly Twitter) to express their awe at the 2nd innings heroics but a massive divide was soon evident. One section of fans hailed skipper Rohit Sharma for his captaincy in the ongoing innings and called on others to ‘apologize’ for criticizing him in the last innings.

Meanwhile, another section dismissed Sharma’s field placement as a “lucky stroke” and instead hailed Virat Kohli for amping up the team’s spirits with his aggression.

As such, even as posts rang in with news of falling Australian wickets, fans of the Men In Blue picked up a fight among themselves to yet again pitch the two veterans of the current Indian team against one another, especially with regard to their captaincy.

Incidentally, catches took down major wickets, such as that of Travis Head and Steve Smith, for which many praised Rohit Sharma and his field placement tactics while also simultaneously acknowledging his strictness towards players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dropped three catches, including one of Marnus Labuschagne.

Contrasting Sharma, Kohli seemed to calm down Jaiswal while apparently reassuring him after his catch drops. The former captain also gestured to Siraj on where to bowl Steve Smith, resulting in the latter’s wicket being scalped.

Thus, the debate on who between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma deserves the credit for today’s heroics is playing all over Indian social media.

Notably, all of this comes mere days after a large section of fans were demanding or rumoring about possible retirement calls by both or any one of these two after a poor show in the last BGT match. Further, an unexpected retirement announcement from spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin further supported this rumor.
