Rajasthan Royals' rising cricket star, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has achieved a remarkable milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the youngest player to score a century. At 14 years and 32 days, Suryavanshi scored a dazzling 101 runs off 38 balls in a match against the Gujarat Titans. This feat places him as the second fastest in IPL history, trailing only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century.

Age Discrepancy Allegations Surface

The celebration of Suryavanshi’s achievement has been marred by controversy following comments from Vijender Singh, a former Indian boxing champion and Olympic medallist. Although Singh did not directly name Suryavanshi, he ignited speculation by posting a cryptic message on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. Singh wrote, "Bhai aaj kal umar choti ker ke cricket me bhe khelne lage?" (Have players started reducing their age to participate in cricket too?).

Singh’s remarks have sparked debate, given the proximity to Suryavanshi’s historic performance. Responding to criticism over his post, Singh maintained his position, stating, "Sachi kehna sukhi rahna" (Speak the truth, live in peace).

No Evidence of Wrongdoing

There is currently no substantiated evidence pointing to any misconduct by Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Nonetheless, age fraud has been a persistent issue in Indian sport, including cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has penalised athletes for similar offences in the past, with players like Rasikh Salam, Manjot Kalra, and Nitish Rana being banned.

As Suryavanshi savours his cricketing success, the Indian cricket community remains vigilant, anticipating further clarification on these allegations.
