Young opener Shantanu Mishra (103, 267b, 11X4) hit a gutsy century to help Odisha rescue a hard-fought draw against Goa in their first Group D Ranji Trophy encounter of the Elite division at Sardar Patel Stadium B Ground, Motera in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

However, Odisha garnered valuable three points on the basis of their first innings lead.

Chasing a herculean target of 387 runs, Odisha were reduced to 239/7 on the final day of the match. Apart from Shantanu, wicket-keeper batsman Rajesh Dhuper (52, 117b, 4x4) also played a fighting knock.

Both Shantanu and Dhuper stitched together a crucial 119 run partnership to give a stiff resistance to Goa bowlers. Anurag Sarangi (28, 44b, 4x4) and Sanddep Pattnaik (32, 42b, 6x4) also made good starts, but couldn’t convert them into big scores.

Dhuper was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant half centuries in both the innings.

Earlier, Goa rode on a scintillating century by skipper Snehal Kaunthakar (165, 175b, 18x4, 3x6) to declare their second innings on 394 for the loss of five wickets.

Brief Scores:

Goa 181 and 394/5 Declared (Snehal Kaunthakar 165; Abhishek Raut 3/106); Odisha 189 & 239/7 (Shantanu Mishra 103, Rajesh Dhuper 52; Amit Yadav 2/24) Result-Match Drawn.
