Eggs were hurled at Nabarangpur MP Ramesh Majhi’s vehicle at Ichhapur village under Jharigaon Block in Nabarangpur district where he had gone to campaign for party candidates for the upcoming Panchayat Polls, on Thursday.
As per reports, the irate villagers carrying lathis chased Majhi’s car, intending to attack him when the BJD parliamentarian was on campaign trail. Before that, they resorted to hurling eggs at the vehicles participating in the rally, including that of the minister’s.
Majhi along with some of his supporters had gone to Ichhapur village. He was campaigning for the party candidates contesting the Panchayat elections. As his carcade was passing through the village, people from nowhere blocked the road and vehemently opposed his visit. To register their protest, they threw eggs at the vehicles in the rally.
The villagers’ anger against the MP stemmed from a past incident. They had invited the Parliamentarian to inaugurate the new Panchayat building. But the people’s representative failed to attend the event. This had irked the villagers. On Thursday, they vented their bottled up anger against the MP by putting up a strong protest.
MP Majhi’s reaction is yet to be received.
In another incident, Labour Minister Sushant Singh and Women and Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahu also became target of egg attack on Thursday. As per reports, both the ministers were on their way to a workers’ meet organised in Titlagarh Assembly constituency in Bolangir district when a few disgruntled villagers threw eggs at their vehicles near Saintala Karamtala.
In past, several BJD leaders including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also faced egg attack.
