Is BJD’s bastion Ganjam imploding from within?

In most Assembly segments, the organizational units of the ruling party are ridden with virulent factionalism and frontline leaders and workers are reportedly disillusioned with local leadership. As a result, the exodus of influential leaders from the party has started.

Tagged as the bastion of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Ganjam is the home turf of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. But of late, the way the political landscape in most parts of this southern district has changed and is keeping on changing, it seems the ruling party is losing base from under its feet. 

In most Assembly segments, the organizational units of the ruling party are ridden with virulent factionalism and frontline leaders and workers are reportedly disillusioned with local leadership. As a result, the exodus of influential leaders from the party has started. Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi, after being expelled from the party on grounds of anti-people activities, was the first to join the BJP.
