The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to remove all the political banners and posters under its jurisdiction in Bhubaneswar ahead of the general elections 2024.
The BMC has decided to do so under the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Speaking about the ECI guidelines, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said, “The BMC has started action as per the Election Commission of India guidelines. I have directed all the staff to remove all those political advertisements against the guideline. We have also requested all the political parties to adhere to the ECI guidelines. We will remove any further political advertisements found in Bhubaneswar before the elections too.”
It is pertinent to mention here that an eight-member team of the ECI led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has recently concluded a three-day visit to Odisha.
His visit was a part of the exercise to assess and review the state’s preparedness for the upcoming general elections 2024. He reviewed the poll preparedness of District Election Officers (DEOs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), enforcement agencies, State Nodal officers, and senior officials of Odisha for the ensuing general elections.
As per Kumar, a total of 3,32,00,000 voters will exercise their franchise at 37,809 stations in Odisha in the oncoming general elections.
