Appealing to the people of Odisha to boycott the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday termed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement to make Odisha a trillion-dollar economy as ridiculous.
“As per the report of the India Ratings and Research, as many as eight states of India would have become one trillion-dollar economy by 2047. If Odisha’s position is taken into consideration, the present Gross State Domestic Product of Odisha is 110 billion dollars,” said state BJP spokesperson, Satyabrata Panda.
“Our average growth rate in the last seven years is 7 per cent. If this rate persists in the coming years, then we have to wait till 2070 to see our state becoming a trillion-dollar economy,” Panda added.
If Odisha has mineral and water resources and a 480-kilometre-long coastline, why it can’t be a trillion-dollar economy by 2047, he asked.
Notably, in the 2022 Make in Odisha conclave, the Chief Minister announced that Odisha would become a trillion-dollar economy in the near future.
No response was received from the BJD in this regard.
