Days after resigning from the primary membership of Congress, former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi on Sunday announced his decision to join the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
Addressing a presser, Majhi said that the BJD led by the party president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been successful in giving a stable government to the people of Odisha. Hence, he along with other ex-leaders of Congress will join the BJD soon.
“It is practically impossible to carry out the developmental works in the undivided Koraput district if I remain with the Congress. I have been trying hard to resolve the issues faced by the people in the region. But it is hard on part of Congress to come to power under the present situations. It was hard on my part to be with the party. BJD, on the other hand, has given a stable government and has created history by increasing seats in every elections,” said Majhi.

He further said that all the leaderships in the undivided Koraput at the grassroots level are also keen to see development of the region.
“All of us will be joining the BJD to strengthen the party. Our decision will help resolve basic issues like education, health and other amenities here,” he added.
On October 22, Majhi had shot off his resignation letter to the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi.
In the letter, Majhi had said, "I have a great desire to serve my people at whatever position I am which is now lacking in the Congress party. As such I am painfully quieting the party for which I may kindly be excused.” Prior to his resignation, speculations were rife that Majhi would be teaming up with a regional party like the BJD.
