Bhubaneswar: Alleging gross mismanagement in tackling Covid-19 situation in the State, the Odisha BJP on Sunday hit out at the BJD-led government over non-functional of Temporary Medical Centres (TMCs) across the State unlike previous year.
Speaking to the media, BJP State President Sameer Mohanty demanded immediate functioning of the TMCs as the number of daily Covid cases is increasing due to heavy influx of migrants from other states.
“The temporary Medical Centres (TMC), which were set up last year during the first wave of the pandemic, are non functional in the State this time. Where are the beds, mattresses, buckets and other articles provided to the centres?" Mohanty asked.

These articles could have been useful this year for the migrants who have returned from other States. The TMCs need to be operational once again, Mohanty demanded.
He further lambasted the State government for allegedly failing to ramp up testing and tracing exercises on border areas.
“The State government’s measures for testing on border villages are not enough. The testing capacity should be increased in the villages bordering the neighbouring states, he said.
People are waiting for hours in queue for their Covid reports. The government should send their reports through mobile SMS instead of forcing people to rush hospitals.
Mohanty further said that Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had proposed the State government to form a crisis management committee comprising members from all parties. But, the government has paid no attention on the proposal, Mohanty maintained.
The BJP leader also came down on the government for failing to ensure vaccination for all in rural areas even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned adequate funds for the same.
He suggested the government to formulate Covid committees at grassroots level, especially pachayat, village and block levels to address the crisis in an effective manner.
Comments of the ruling-party leaders could not be obtained on the allegations.
