What is Inter Parliamentary Union?

The IPU is an inter-parliamentary organisation with a membership of 178 Parliaments with Indian Parliament being a member of the same since 1949.

The different positions in the IPU panels are filled up on the basis of geographical representation. India is a member of the Asia Pacific Geopolitical Group (APG).

Meanwhile, Aparajita Sarangi’s candidature needs to be endorsed by this Geopolitical Group. The Ministry of External Affairs is already endeavouring for the support of the members of Asia Pacific Geopolitical Group for Sarangi.
