Kamal Kishore Majhi, a resident of Salapur area in Bhadrak district, has earned the distinction of creating the smallest functional refrigerator, which has earned him a place in the India Book of Records.
Kamal, who is in the second year of BTech, has many innovative creations in his name which include a mini vacuum cleaner, foot-operated hand sanitiser and money sanitiser which can be carried in a purse. This time, he has again earned high praises with his latest innovation of the smallest functional refrigerator with an investment of just Rs 1,500.

Kamal has made the tiny refrigerator by using aluminium sheet, brushless cooling fan, heat sink, thermoelectrical module, thermocol, safety grill, sockets and LEDs.
Kamal came up with the astounding creativity to facilitate the storage and transportation of Covid-19 vaccines, medical equipment, injections and medicines easily and with less expenditure.
“Vaccines need low temperature for storage and this refrigerator can provide the perfect facility. When the common refrigerators used in transporting the vaccines cost approximately Rs 15,000, this refrigerator can be purchased and used with an expense of just Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500,” said Kamal.
“Besides, my main motive behind the invention was to give a wing to my creativity and find a place in the record book”, he added.
Kamal further stated that the smallest refrigerator, which is 12.7 cm long, 10.3 cm wide and 20.5 cm high, will be helpful for the people living in rural areas as it can run on an ordinary battery. It is also affordable due to its low making expenses.
Expressing happiness over his son’s achievement, Kamal’s father, Krushna Chandra Majhi said “ I am very happy that my son has come up with the unique idea. His creation will help people residing in areas with poor power supply connectivity.”
“We are proud that his innovation has made a place in the India Book of Record and we will be even more delighted if his refrigerator helps people during this tough time of pandemic,” said Kamal’s mother, Kuntala Majhi.
