According to sources, the body of the youth from Nuasarsara village in Bargarh was spotted by some people while lying under mysterious circumstances. The young man was beaten to death for unknown reasons, his family members alleged.

The victim has been identified as Manoj Bag, who had gone to witness the Rath Yatra last Sunday along with his friends, but had not returned home.

When Manoj did not return home for quite a long time, his family grew suspicious and began searching for him at all probable locations, but to no avail. Their worst fears came true when his lifeless body was discovered near a roadside eatery (Dhaba) close to Sarsara. The condition of the body led the family to allege murder by assault.

On being informed, a local police team reached the spot. The body was recovered and sent to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Bargarh for post-mortem. Meanwhile, police from the Sadar Police Station have started a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding Manoj's death.

However, as of now, no official statement has been released by the police.

Locals have demanded swift action and a transparent probe to uncover the truth behind the suspicious and untimely death of the youth.

“He (Manoj) was the lone earning member of our family. His wife is sick, and my father is differently-abled. He is survived by three children. Who will now take care of them all?” the deceased’s elder sister, Yagnyaseni Bibhar, said to mediapersons.

“His (Manoj’s) friends have killed him,” the woman alleged.
