A distressed family of K Khalarida village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday alleged that the police are doing nothing to trace their son who has allegedly been abducted.

According to the family members, Dipu Patra, who works in Surat, had returned home a few days ago. On Friday, he along with his friend had gone to Chhatrapur court in connection with a past case. While they were returning home on a bike, a gang of three to four youths allegedly waylaid them and took Dipu with them forcibly. Dipu’s friend informed the former’s family members about what had happened to them.

The miscreants had also made a video call to the family members informing them about the abduction. Dipu also informed his friend who is staying in Surat that he was tortured by the abductors.

The family members immediately lodged a complaint with the Kabisuryanagar police station. They alleged the police are doing nothing to find out their missing son.

“My son along with his friend had gone to the court on a bike. My son was riding pillion. While returning, a gang of five to six youths waylaid them and abducted my son. My son has not done any harm to them. Even If he has done any harm to them, I am apologizing on behalf of him. We are very poor. I want my son back,” said Alekha Patra, Dipu’s mother while sobbing.

Dipu’s wife Chinmayee Patra while crying inconsolably said, “Three days have passed since we lodged a complaint at the police station. They are yet to get any whereabouts of him. They are only assuring us saying they are searching for him.”

When contacted, Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena said, “In this regard, an FIR has been registered. A team has been formed and it has been conducting raids at different possible locations. Our efforts are on to apprehend the miscreants.”
