In a significant development, Bolangir Town Police have initiated steps to exhume the body of a woman, three days after she was buried, for a post-mortem examination. The move comes following allegations by the family members that the woman died due to medical negligence.
According to reports, Saudamini Nag, a resident of Ranisarada village in Sonepur district, was admitted to a private hospital in Malpada on June 23 after suffering from a gallstone issue. However, after undergoing surgery, her health deteriorated sharply.
Following the complications, the doctors referred her to another medical facility in an ambulance, where she was declared dead.
Allegation by family members
Subsequently, the deceased's family has alleged that she died due to wrong or negligent treatment by the doctors.
After a complaint was filed, the police launched an investigation. Since no post-mortem had been conducted before the burial, police visited the village burial ground to retrieve the body.

As per police sources, the exhumed body will be sent for post-mortem to ascertain the actual cause of death. Bolangir SDPO Saroj Kumar Upadhyay informed via phone that action will be taken as per legal procedures once the facts are clear.
As of now, no official statement has been received from the authorities of the private medical facility involved.
"My wife died due to the wrong surgery and medical negligence. Had she been treated properly, she would not have died. We want justice over the matter," said the deceased's husband, Akshay Kumar Nag.
"I just came to know about the incident. We will form a team of doctors to investigate the matter. Detailed information about the incident could be divulged after the post-mortem. We will also check the records of the hospital as part of the investigation. It is a serious allegation and we will have to make a detailed inquiry into the incident," said Bolangir District Headquarters Hospital Superintendent Dr Ramesh Chandra Sahoo.
