'Blackmailed' by journalist, woman tries to kill self in front of Police DG office in Cuttack

Alleging police apathy, a woman poured kerosene and tried to kill self in front of the Police DG office in Cuttack on Wednesday.

The woman, who is reportedly a resident of Rajakanika area, alleged that a journalist has been blackmailing her by making her videos.

However, even after repeated requests and police complaints, police are not taking any steps against the journalist, alleged the woman. She was later rescued by police.

She alleged, "Saroj Ratha of News7 Pattamundai journalist had been blackmailing me by keeping my photos and videos. Police are also supporting and shielding him.

"She further alleged that she was threatened and harassed, and several top police officers are shielding the accused. "Left with no other option, I have come here to commit suicide," she said.

Meanwhile, the accused journalist is reportedly absconding. Police investigation is underway to nab the accused, said sources.
