Tragic bike-van collision claims two lives in Odisha’s Ganjam

A tragic road accident in Odisha’s Ganjam district claimed the lives of two youths after their bike collided with a van in Digapahandi. In a separate incident in Bhadrak, a car caught fire on NH-16, though all passengers escaped safely. These back-to-back mishaps have reignited concerns over road safety and emergency preparedness in the State.

Two youths lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Ganjam district. In a separate incident, a car went up in flames in Bhadrak, on Friday. Fortunately, all occupants survived in the Bhadrak mishap.

In the first incident, reported from Ganjam’s Digapahandi locality, a fatal collision occurred at the Baiganabadi Chhak under Digapahandi Sadar police limits. A van coming from Digapahandi side reportedly crashed into a motorcycle carrying two youths, leading to their deaths on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Karna Sethy and Sanatan Suasia, both were residents of Khalingee village under Patapur police limits. The two were travelling from Balipadar to Kalua when the accident took place.

Following the tragedy, traffic came to a halt on the busy Berhampur–Balipadar main road, causing major disruption. Vehicular movement was stalled for hours.

In the second incident from Bhadrak, the ill-fated car caught fire on National Highway-16, near Akhuapada. The vehicle, which was travelling from Balasore to Bhubaneswar, caught fire suddenly.

Fortunately, all three passengers inside the car managed to escape unhurt. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Traffic was briefly halted on the highway following the incident.

On being informed by some locals, Bhandaripokhari Police arrived at the scene and initiated a detailed probe. Police have registered separate cases in connection with the two cases. Police have also seized the vehicles involved in the fatal mishaps.

However, no comments were received from Digapahandi Sadar Police and Bhandaripokhari Police in this regard.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, three members of a family were killed after a speeding truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind at Jagmohan Chhak on National Highway-49 under Telkoi block of Keonjhar district on August 6 morning.

The deceased were identified as Tanka Patra, his wife, and their 11-year-old daughter.
