While Odisha was immersed in celebrations on Kartika Purnima on Monday, a tragic incident reportedly marred the celebratory moods of the people at Chasa Gurujang village under Pallahara block in Angul district.
A youth while setting afloat a boat in Samal Right canal, drowned after being swept away by water currents. The deceased was identified as Ashish Sahu, a resident of Chasa Gurujang.
A pall of gloom descended on the village following the unfortunate incident. Ashish among scores of his fellow villagers went to the Samal Right canal to ‘Danga Bhasa’ (symbolic boat sailing ritual) early on the auspicious day of Kartika Purnima.
