Reason behind the trafficking

The child's mother, facing financial difficulties, had allegedly handed over the newborn to another individual, who was suspected of intending to traffic the child. This prompted swift police intervention. The officers travelled overnight to Chhattisgarh, where they successfully retrieved the child from suspected traffickers, ensuring the newborn’s safety.

While no arrests have yet been made, probes are underway as police work to uncover more details about the alleged trafficking.

Worth mentioning, a detailed probe is still underway to ascertain the motive behind the recent child abduction in Bhubaneswar. Whether the kidnapping was intended for adoption or sale will be found out, police sources said on Tuesday.

Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar successfully rescued the child who was previously kidnapped, finding the child safe in Balasore.

Authorities have arrested the prime suspect, Kedarsen Panda, in Puri while also detaining a woman in connection with the case.

“This rescue operation had appeared before us as a difficult manoeuvre. We had little clue how to proceed. Initially, it was suspected that the baby could be trafficked outside the State. Immediately, we had formed four separate teams and carried out the operation in a very deep, controlled, and articulated manner,” Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh expressed in a presser.

“It was the question of a child’s safety, as he cannot even express his name. The case was handled very sensitively. During simultaneous raids at different places last night, the missing child was rescued from a woman,” the Police Commissioner said.

“Two persons were detected in Bhadrak and Balasore, who had facilitated the shifting of the stolen child by motorcycle. After a few hours, the accused Kedarsen Panda was nabbed by a police team in Puri,” Commissioner Singh stated.
