Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar issued a traffic advisory on Wednesday pertaining to a political demonstration on March 27 announced by Congress in Bhubaneswar.

Ahead of the party's scheduled demonstration near the Legislative Assembly tomorrow, extensive security arrangements have been made in the Capital City. The ongoing protest is likely to cause traffic disruptions, and as a result, traffic restrictions will be in place from 9.00 AM to 3.00 PM, according to the Commissionerate Police.

Areas between Rajmahal Square and Rupali Square are expected to be particularly affected. Commuters are advised to plan for alternative routes during these hours.

Advisory issued by the Commissionerate Police

“In light of the upcoming political demonstration around OLA (Odisha Legislative Assembly) on 27.03.2025, significant traffic congestion is anticipated from 9.00 AM to 3.00 PM in and around the city area of Bhubaneswar, particularly on the route from Raj Mahal Square to Rupali Square and vice versa. Commissionerate Police advises the public to avoid this route or plan their journey accordingly to ensure a smoother commute and to minimise travel disruptions. Please stay updated with local traffic advisories and co-operate with authorities for safe and hassle-free travel,” a notification issued in this regard mentioned.

Considering the Congress protest, a substantial number of security personnel has been deployed by the Commissionerate Police. The Twin City Police Commissioner has personally inspected the security arrangements to ensure preparedness.

Earlier today, chaos unfolded outside the Odisha Legislative Assembly as Congress workers clashed with the police while attempting to breach security barricades following the suspension of all their 14 MLAs.

Allegedly in a shocking turn of events, the Additional Police Commissioner (ACP) Narasingha Bhola was physically assaulted by agitated Congress workers.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when police tried to prevent protesting Congress workers and MLAs from forcefully entering the Odisha Assembly premises.
