In a tragic turn of events on Sunday, three young men drowned in two separate incidents at Chandrabhaga Beach in Odisha’s Puri district. Two victims were pulled from the waters near the Eco Retreat site, while another youth lost his life some distance away.
According to initial reports, all three were swept away by strong currents while bathing in the sea.
Double Tragedy Near Eco Retreat
The first incident occurred near the popular Eco Retreat spot at Chandrabhaga, where two friends from Bhubaneswar ventured into the water. Witnesses say they were caught in powerful waves and dragged into deeper waters. Despite rescue attempts by locals and lifeguards, both were declared dead upon being brought ashore.
Another Life Lost Nearby
In a separate mishap a short distance from the first site, another young man reportedly from the Pahal area of Cuttack also drowned. He, too, is believed to have been pulled in by strong currents while bathing. His body was later recovered by rescue teams.
Police and Rescue Operations
Local police, along with lifeguard teams, rushed to both spots and coordinated the retrieval of the bodies. The victims were later identified through documents and information from their families.
A Grim Reminder for Beach Safety
Authorities have once again urged visitors to exercise extreme caution while entering the sea, especially during periods of rough currents. These back-to-back tragedies have cast a pall of gloom over Chandrabhaga, a beach otherwise known for its serene beauty.
