The Odisha government’s flagship welfare initiative, Subhadra Yojana, completed one year on Tuesday. Introduced by the BJP government, it is regarded as one of the state’s most ambitious programs aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and financial independence.
As per official data, financial aid worth Rs 15,000 crore has been distributed in three installments over the past year. The government claims the scheme has benefitted nearly one crore women, helping them move towards greater self-reliance.
Under the Subhadra Yojana, every beneficiary receives Rs 10,000 annually in two equal installments of Rs 5,000 each. The payments are directly credited to women’s bank accounts on Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day, ensuring both transparency and timely support.
Notably, PM Narendra Modi had launched the flagship programme on his birthday during his visit to Bhubaneswar on 17 September 2024.
The scheme, aimed at strengthening women’s economic status and promoting self-reliance, has quickly gained popularity across Odisha. State officials described it as the ‘largest programme for women’s empowerment’ launched since the BJP government came to power in the state.

Marking the scheme’s first anniversary, the government reiterated its commitment to continue empowering women and supporting their journey towards financial independence.
