According to sources, more than a hundred students of the Baripada government women’s college agitated today on campus demanding the cancellation of the professor’s transfer. The demonstration took place in front of the college's main gate, which the students locked to emphasise their demands.
The protesting students, primarily from the Geology Department, held placards and raised slogans against the college authorities. Allegedly, the professor’s transfer occurred abruptly in the middle of the academic year, severely disrupting their studies.
Despite raising the issue with the college authorities multiple times, the students claimed no action was taken to resolve their concerns. This led them to launch a full-scale protest.
In response, the college principal intervened and attempted to pacify the students, assuring them that the matter would be looked into.
The students emphasised the importance of continuity in academic mentorship, especially in the specialised subjects like Geology, and demanded that the transferred professor be reinstated immediately to avoid further academic setbacks.
“As compared to other colleges, the number of faculty in our college is very less. For instance, the number in our Geology Department is only two. The faculty number in some other departments is either 1 or 2. Why is no one thinking about our college?” a student, Anuska Pradhan, said to mediapersons.
“Even no laboratory assistant is there in the Science Building. Instead of looking into the matter and filling up the vacant positions, the existing faculties are being transferred,” the agitating student alleged.
