The student lost his life after the electricity utility pole collapsed on him inside the premises of Budharaja Government UP School in Sambalpur. The unfortunate incident occurred during ongoing railway line expansion work near the school boundary.

The pole, which had become unstable due to nearby construction activity, fell suddenly. The student, who was standing nearby, could not escape the mishap and was fatally struck. Despite immediate efforts to provide medical help, he was declared ‘dead’.

The incident occurred while workers were removing electricity poles as part of a railway line expansion project. One of the poles collapsed near the school boundary. At that moment, Deepu had stepped outside to relieve himself, and tragically, the pole fell directly on him, causing his death on the spot, eyewitnesses expressed.

Local residents and parents have raised serious concerns about the safety measures at construction sites, especially those close to educational institutions. Many demanded a thorough probe and accountability for the negligence that led to the child’s death.

The district administration has promised an inquiry into the incident and has urged the railway and electricity departments to review their safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Allegedly, the contractor in charge of the work had failed to implement any safety measures around the area, resulting in the pole falling straight into the school premises.

Following the incident, senior police officials arrived at the hospital where the body has been kept for post-mortem. Senior officers from the Railway Department also reached the district hospital to assess the situation.

No comments were received from the child’s family or local police in this regard.
