Incidents of individuals attempting to enter the Srimandir in Puri with hidden cameras are increasingly coming to light. A youth from Gujarat was caught while attempting to enter the temple premises wearing glasses equipped with a hidden spy camera on Monday, and another youth from West Bengal was apprehended on Tuesday over the same kind of accusation.

As per reports, police detained the youth, identified as Pratish Pal from the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal, while he was attempting to enter through the temple’s west gate wearing spectacles fitted with a hidden camera. He is currently in police custody, and the spectacles have been seized for examination of the recorded footage.

Yesterday, a devotee named Vipul Patel from Gujarat was similarly caught trying to enter the temple with a spy camera. He too is being held at the police station for questioning.

A few days ago, another youth was caught by police attempting to enter the temple’s sanctum area with a spy camera hidden in his glasses.

In response, Puri SP has stated that such incidents are being dealt with strictly by the temple police and security personnel. Discussions have also been held with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration on bringing in a specific law to curb such activities.

"If no photographs have been taken and there has been no connection of the glasses with the mobile, on what basis we will register a case? There is a little bit of legal complicacy in this case. In case of incidents we get the link that photographs have been taken from the glasses and those photographs have been stored in the mobile, we register cases. An ambitious SOP program is there. Discussions are made in every level for the safety and security of Srimandir. We are reviewing it regularly," said Puri SP Pinak Mishra.

Authorities are treating the matter with seriousness due to the strict no-camera policy in and around the Jagannath temple in Puri, a high-security zone and a place of immense religious significance.
