The state-level celebration of International Day of Yoga was held with great enthusiasm at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

The event saw the participation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with Speaker Surama Padhy, several ministers, MLAs, MPs, NITI Aayog officials, the Chief Secretary, and other senior government officers.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “Yoga is a priceless gift from India to the global community and an integral part of our cultural heritage. Once limited to India, yoga gained international recognition after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took it to the world stage within just six months of assuming office in May 2014.”

Describing yoga as “India’s software,” the Chief Minister said it provides a path from mental stress and negativity to creativity and inner peace. He further emphasized that yoga fosters a harmonious balance of physical health, intellectual clarity, emotional stability, and spiritual growth. He further added that yoga awakens the connection between body, soul, and thought, helping individuals move towards a more balanced and mindful life.

Participants, guided by expert instructors, performed various yoga asanas and breathing exercises, highlighting the essence of holistic health and inner peace.

International Day of Yoga

The International Day of Yoga, celebrated every year on June 21, highlights the ancient Indian practice that promotes physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Recognised by the United Nations in 2014 following a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the day aims to raise global awareness about the benefits of yoga. 

From improving flexibility and reducing stress to fostering inner peace, yoga offers a holistic approach to health. Celebrations across the world include mass yoga sessions, workshops, and awareness campaigns, uniting people through the timeless wisdom of yoga.
