Less than 12 hours after miscreants decamped with cash from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Nabarangpur district, all the five accused were arrested on Wednesday.
Swinging into action following the robbery, the personnel of the district police chased the robbers and nabbed them from a jungle near Dabugaon.
Police sources said four of the accused belong to Haryana and another belongs to Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
While the police have recovered around Rs 20 lakh from the accused till now, the exact amount of the cash looted from the ATM is still not clear.
As per reports, the miscreants cut open the ATM with a gas cutter and looted cash from it. It is evident from the burnt cash lying around in the kiosk.
Following the loot, the ATM caught fire. Firefighters were called in and doused the blaze subsequently.
While the police have launched an investigation into this connection, no comments were available either from the police or from the bank authorities.
Earlier this January, miscreants looted cash from two Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in Balasore’s Khaira and Soro.
The first incident was reported from Tudigadia market in Khaira where at least six miscreants robbed an Axis bank ATM by cutting open the vending machine with the help of gas cutters. They even bombed the kiosk while robbing it. The ATM is said to have Rs 20 lakh cash which has been stolen.
The second loot was reported from a Punjab National Bank (PNB) ATM at Mangalpur in Soro. The miscreants looted cash worth over lakhs from this ATM by cutting it open before fleeing the scene.
