In a significant development in the seizure of around Rs 1 core from a luxury car in Bhubaneswar, a special CBI court sent group general manager of Bridge and Roof Company Chanchal Mukherjee and two contractors identified as Santosh Maharana and Debadutta Mahapatra to a three-day remand on Sunday following their arrest.

The CBI on Sunday arrested the trio following the seizure of around Rs 1 crore and gold ornaments from a luxurious car in front of Mayfair hotel in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. The premier investigating agency then produced them in a special CBI court, seeking a seven-day remand. 

However, the special court permitted the CBI to take the accused persons on a three-day remand.

The CBI sleuths earlier carried out raids on Debadutta Mohapatra’s house and seized huge amounts of money and gold ornaments and important documents from an almirah. The sleuths also seized a digital locker from his house and later brought it to the office near Ram Mandir.

As per sources, today, the CBI officials are also carrying out raids at three places in Bhadrak and two places in Bhubaneswar. The raids are said to be related to crores of money misappropriation and tender fixing. The raids were carried out on the basis of a complaint registered with the CBI, Delhi. 

The raids were carried out not only in Odisha but also in 11 places including Delhi and Kolkata. 

While replying to queries from journalists, Debadutta Mohapatra said he knew nothing about why he had been apprehended.
