With heavy rain lashing several parts of Odisha, maximum day temperature in Bhubaneswar & Cuttack on Wednesday fell to record lows for the month of March.
The information was provided by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on its X handle on Wednesday.
According to the Meteorological Centre, the previous lowest maximum day temperature of 24.3 degrees Celsius was recorded on 6th March 1970 and today’s (20th March 2024) maximum temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius surpassed that record and became the lowest reading on the scale since the year 1952.
Similarly, Cuttack recorded the lowest maximum day temperature of 23.6 degrees Celsius on March 6, 1970. On Wednesday (March 20, 2024), the temperature in Cuttack dropped to 20 degrees Celsius breaking its all-time record of the lowest maximum day temperature in the month of March since 1902, informed IMD Bhubaneswar.

However, IMD said, there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during the next 24 hrs following which there will be a rise by 8-10 degrees Celsius at most places over the districts of Odisha.
Similarly, no large change in minimum temperature (night temperature) during the next 24 hrs and a rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius in the subsequent 4 to 5 days is expected at most places over the districts of Odisha, said IMD in its bulletin.
According to IMD scientist Umasankar Das, the rainfall activities have considerably brought down the temperature, providing much-needed respite to people from the hot conditions.
