On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, President Droupadi Murmu upheld a cherished family tradition by sending a rakhi from the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi to her younger brother, Tarani Sen Tudu, in Mayurbhanj district.

The festival, which celebrates the bond of affection, respect, and lifelong protection between brothers and sisters, saw the country’s First Citizen participating in the rituals with the same warmth as in her childhood.

Morning Rituals and a Sister’s Blessings

According to sources, Tarani Sen Tudu began his day by completing his morning routines before carefully tying the rakhi sent by his elder sister.

Over a phone call soon after, the siblings exchanged festive greetings. Tudu sought his sister’s blessings, while the President asked after his well-being and inquired about his next visit to Delhi, to which he replied that he would be visiting very soon.

“We took updates from one another and inquired about each other's well-being. She asked when I was coming to meet her, and I replied that I would go soon enough. The bond between a brother and sister is very special. I prayed for her well-being, and she, too, blessed me, her only brother, with prosperity,” said Tarani Sen Tudu in an interaction with OTV.

Memories from a Shared Childhood

Notably, the rakhi carried with it more than ceremonial value for Tudu. It was a reminder of years past when his sister, irrespective of her work or location, never missed tying the sacred thread or sending it to him on time.

"On the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, I spoke to my elder sister (the President) via phone first thing in the morning. She had sent the Rakhi to me beforehand. I wore it symbolically before keeping it back to preserve it as a memory. It always feels special,” added Tudu.
