A two-day National Car Race Championship was kicked off at Baramunda ground in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, attracting several participants from across the states of Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
The first-of-a-kind event in the state capital is being held under the aegis of the 2024 Indian National Auto Cross Championship. The event, titled ‘Race off the road’ is the 2nd round of the east zone qualifier event.

As per sources, at least 10 participants from Odisha and about 32 others from the neighbouring states have taken part in the dirt race event being held at Biju Patnaik playground in Baramunda.
Well-made dirt tracks and on-spot emergency services aim to make the event incident-free while providing an entertaining ground to all motorsports enthusiasts in the state. Ground visuals highlighted several racers, wearing gloves and helmets, competing in this high-speed racing championship.
Several categories of races are also being held to cater to enthusiasts of all levels including a special ladies class race. Four-wheeler cars of any make and from 800cc to 1650cc are allowed to enter, compete, and grab the title.

Meanwhile, the event also aims to advocate adhering to safety protocols on state and national roads, especially highways.
“A major emphasis of this event is to let motorsports enthusiasts have a safe ground to enjoy their passion, for which we have constructed a proper track equipped with ambulance and other safety measures. We would request people to not race on streets and highways, putting their as well as others’ lives in danger,” said Ramesh Mohapatra, general secretary of Kalinga Motorsports club.
