In a heart-wrenching incident, at least three persons were killed and around 50 others were injured in the stampede near the Gundicha Temple in Puri on Sunday morning. In response, Kendrapara MP and BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda expressed profound sorrow.
The senior leader expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished swift recovery of the injured. He prayed to Lord Jagannath to give strength and courage to endure this time of grief.
"It's a matter of great sorrow. There was a huge gathering of 10-15 lakh people on a road. This kind of tragic incident happened despite taking all kinds of precautions which is really heartbreaking. Steps are being taken in this regard. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. I also wish speedy recovery of the injured," said Panda.

Earlier, Odisha CM Mohan Majhi chaired a meeting with his deputies to assess the stampede situation. Puri's titular king Gajapati Maharaja Divyasingha Deb also expressed shock over the stampede and appealed to the Odisha government to immediately carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
