According to sources, a disturbing video capturing the statement of Balanga minor girl at the Central government-run health facility in Odisha Capital has gone viral on social media, sparking public concern and prompting swift clarification from Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra.

The SP clarified that the video in question was recorded while the survivor was undergoing medical treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, immediately after the incident. However, the legally valid statement was recorded later at AIIMS Delhi in the presence of a Judicial Magistrate, following all due legal procedures.

Authorities have confirmed that the viral video is not a recorded judicial statement and warned that sharing or distributing such sensitive content involving a minor is illegal and unethical. The matter is now under active investigation, with cybercrime and Crime Branch teams jointly working to identify how and by whom the video was leaked.

The girl’s family has been kept informed about all developments. Police reiterated that any video involving minors or sensitive cases should not be circulated under any circumstances. The final probe report, along with forensic reports still awaited, will be submitted to the court.

The senior police official assured that all evidence, including the source of the leak, will be presented to the judiciary, and strict action will be taken against any individual found responsible for the breach.

“The day when the minor girl was being shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, that day also, she had given a similar statement as beforehand. I think the viral video, which is being circulated on social media, is a part of that day. However, we are probing to ascertain the source of this video and the person(s) involved in making it viral,” the SP said to mediapersons.

“We are also verifying the genuineness of the video,” SP Pinak Mishra added.
