The Suar Mahasuar Nijog of the Puri Srimandir has denied using of iron cauldron to cook Mahaprasad and urged the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to ensure continuous supply of the specific earthen pots (kudua).
As per reports, during Covid time, the shortage of ‘kudua’ forced some servitors of the Suar Mahasuar Nijog to cook Mahaprasad in iron cauldrons, even though it was against the tradition.
However, letters have been served to those servitors asking them to refrain from using iron cauldron to cook Mahaprasad.

The issue of iron cauldron used in Mahaprasad cooking was discussed at the Ananda Bazar Sanskar meeting.
“The servitors have agreed not to use iron cauldron to prepare Mahaprasad. We have requested the SJTA to provide us with a sufficient number of the specific ‘kudua’. The fact is that the potter community is not able to supply the required number of such earthen pots. In the coming days, the problem will be more serious. So, we have to think seriously about it,” said Narasingha Pratihari, joint secretary of the Suar Mahasuar Nijog.
