A new Anti-Burglary Squad was constituted on Tuesday by the Commissionerate Police in response to the growing challenge of apartment burglaries in Bhubaneswar.
This team consists of 150 specially selected officers, who are actively engaged in night-time patrols and strategic blockades across different localities. Led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra, the squad is equipped with armed personnel to bolster security efforts, official sources said.

According to sources, the squad is extending its reach into suburban areas of the Capital City. A dedicated WhatsApp group has been initiated to streamline operations, including officers from police stations in the State Capital, as well as the presidents and secretaries of apartment associations.
“Cases of burglary have been reported for the last few days from isolated apartments on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. We noticed that the security infrastructure are little bit weak in those apartments. The apartments are also located far away from police stations and have insufficient provision of lighting,” the Bhubaneswar DCP said mediapersons.

“We have got some specific clues relating to the apartment burglaries. However, to prevent such night burglary and thefts, we carried out a detailed survey of the apartments and have formed a special squad,” DCP Mishra expressed.
Upon spotting suspicious individuals or vehicles, the police act with urgency. In cases where an apartment’s CCTV system is found to be non-functional, the Anti-Burglary Squad will promptly notify the Bhubaneswar DCP.
