The victim nursing student from Odisha’s Nabarangpur is still fighting for her life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after a rejected lover previously assaulted her in public, leaked private photos on social media, and pushed her into a suicide attempt.

According to sources, the horrifying case of one-sided love has rocked the Nabarangpur district. A young man, allegedly enraged by rejection, physically assaulted the nursing student in public, leaked private photos online, and forced her into an attempted suicide. The incident occurred under Raighar police limits and has triggered outrage across the State.
The victim girl, a B.Sc Nursing student from Jeypore staying in a hostel, was allegedly being harassed by Satyajit Sarkar, a youth from a neighbouring village. Despite her repeated refusals, Satyajit continued to stalk and trouble her. On July 13, while the student was on her way to the Jeypore market, he attacked her on the street. The matter reached Jeypore police station but was not pursued further with urgency.
After his romantic advances failed, Satyajit reportedly made her private photos with a male friend viral on social media, threatening, “If you can’t be mine, you won’t be anyone else’s.” Humiliated and devastated, the girl returned home and consumed poison on July 17.
The girl’s condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting her family to take her from Umerkote hospital to a health facility in Konda, Chhattisgarh. With no improvement, she was brought back on July 21. Her brother later filed an FIR with Raighar police.
Authorities then rushed her to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), and due to her critical condition, she was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The accused, Satyajit, was previously arrested and produced in a local court but was released on bail. After that, and irked with the arrest, he allegedly resumed his harassment, leading to this tragic sequence of events.
