At least 10 students sustained injuries as the school bus they were travelling in was hit by a trailer truck early this morning in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
The accident took place on NH-55 near Korian under Dhenkanal Sadar police station on Monday.
The bus, of a private school in the district, was reportedly packed with about 40 to 50 students, from classes 1 to 10, at the time of impact. Fortunately, no casualties were reported but around 10 students sustained injuries.

Sources said that owing to repair work on NH-55, the school bus was diverted to an alternate route. However, a trailer truck suddenly crossed into the road and hit the bus from behind. The driver of the truck fled the scene soon after the mishap.
As per reports, a teacher accompanying the students also suffered injuries in the collision and was admitted to a nearby hospital along with the injured students.
All of the injured students were stable and eventually discharged from the hospital after receiving primary care, sources said.

Till the last reports came in, police had not nabbed the driver of the truck. However, the source added that police were investigating the incident and attempts were on to locate the truck driver.
