The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Friday seized about 1 kilogram of brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore and arrested two persons in connection with the matter.
The arrested brown sugar peddlers have been identified as Niranjan Pattjoshi, an auto driver, and Pradipta Kumar Sahu, both residents of the Delang area in Puri.
Addressing a press conference, Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi said, “The Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police seized 1.012 kilograms of brown sugar with an estimated market value of over Rs 1 crore. The narcotics team comprising ACP K K Hariprasad and inspectors Sudhir Sahu and Santoshini Behera working under the direct supervision of additional DCP Sanjeev Satpathy has achieved success after working for some days. They have arrested two notorious drug peddlers of the Delang area. Two motorcycles have also been seized from them.”

“Since the formation of the Special Crime Unit on May 10, 2023, the anti-narcotics drive has been launched. The Special Crime Unit has so far seized 1.420 kilograms of brown sugar and about 230 kilograms of ganja. Vehicles were also seized,” he added.
